Oxfordshire Homeless Movement

Submitted by Yvonne Pinner on

You can now vote for Oxfordshire Homeless Movement (OHM) in this year’s “Brand the Bus” competition, a major county-wide initiative offering local charities the chance to dramatically increase their visibility and impact. Our entry represents an exciting opportunity to connect more people in Oxfordshire with the support they need.

Run by the Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel, the competition offers a £100,000 advertising package to one winning organisation. This includes a year-long full-wrap advert on a double-decker bus travelling across Oxfordshire, alongside onboard and radio advertising, and wider promotional support. The competition is now in its public voting stage, giving communities across the county the chance to support the causes that matter most to them.

There are 71 amazing charities listed, all of which deserve exposure for their work. For OHM, we are all about working in partnership to support people experiencing homelessness. One of our key roles is ensuring that anyone who needs help, and anyone who wants to offer it, knows where to go. Our website acts as a central, trusted hub for services across Oxfordshire, bringing together accurate and up-to-date information in one place. Visibility for us means visibility for all services available across the county.

Winning “Brand the Bus” would significantly amplify that reach. A bus travelling daily through towns and villages would help ensure that more people know where to turn in times of need, and how to support others in meaningful ways.

OHM’s work is rooted in collaboration, filling gaps in provision while avoiding duplication and always signposting to the most appropriate services. This coordinated approach is strengthened by the Lived Experience Advisory Forum (LEAF), ensuring that the voices of those who have experienced homelessness directly shape the charity’s work.

With a small team of volunteers, one staff member, and a steering committee, OHM delivers impactful work across the county. Thanks to a donor funding our core costs, all fundraising goes directly into our projects, making opportunities like this even more valuable.

As voting opens, this is a chance for the community to help expand OHM’s reach in a meaningful way. Increased awareness means more people accessing support, more effective giving, and ultimately, stronger outcomes for those experiencing homelessness across Oxfordshire.

A branded bus on the streets would help ensure that vital support is seen, found, and accessed by those who need it most.
